Fire Inspection & DKV — Free Guide and Checklists

Everything you need to know about the operations, control, and maintenance plan for fire safety in Danish buildings. Legal requirements, frequencies, and complete checklists.

What is DKV?

DKV stands for Drift, Kontrol og Vedligehold (Operations, Control, and Maintenance). It is the legal framework for fire safety in buildings throughout their lifetime. The requirements are based on BR18 sections 137-158, Chapter 7, and cover all fire protection installations and passive fire safety measures in a building.

gavel Responsibility

The building owner bears full responsibility for DKV. Responsibility can be delegated to an operations manager, but it cannot be transferred — the owner is always liable.

Consequences of non-compliance

warning Risks of inadequate DKV

  • Enforcement orders: 38% of inspected buildings receive enforcement orders during fire inspections.
  • Prohibition: The building can be shut down with immediate effect.
  • Fines/imprisonment: Up to 4 months imprisonment (aggravating circumstances: up to 2 years).
  • Insurance: Insurance companies may reduce or deny coverage.
